Nearly 500 animals have been found neglected or dead across private properties in recent months — most of them in Northwest Georgia.  WTVC-TV reports a troubling rise in animal cruelty cases, including a major hoarding situation in Trenton, where over 260 animals were rescued. Two people now face charges in that case, and many of the animals are recovering in foster homes or have been adopted.  In Walker County, five people are facing charges after dogs and cats were discovered in what officials described as “atrocious conditions” inside a home on Highway 151.  There is help available. Walker County offers free spay and neuter vouchers, though officials say there’s currently a backlog.
Georgia’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.5% in June — that’s below the national average. And the state just hit a major milestone: total jobs topped 5 million for the first time ever.  Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes called it a historic moment, crediting Georgia’s workforce and businesses for driving consistent growth.  She says this isn’t just about numbers — it’s about momentum, opportunity, and resilience for every Georgian.
The new school year is quickly approaching.  The first day of school in Walker County is set for August 7th.  That’s exactly 20 days from today.
