LaFayette, GA — Installation of the highly anticipated rock climbing elements began last week at Greenway Park, bringing the community one step closer to the park’s grand opening, scheduled for Spring 2026.
The newest addition features climbing opportunities for all ages and skill levels, including a 30-foot guided climbing wall that will offer supervised programming led by the LaFayette Parks and Recreation Department. The wall marks one of the most visible milestones in the ongoing construction of the park.
While the rock feature is drawing plenty of attention, city officials urge residents to remember that the site is still an active construction zone and not yet open to the public. Work continues on key infrastructure—such as irrigation systems, underground electrical lines, and sidewalk installations—necessary for safe and successful park operations.
“We know everyone is excited, and we are too,” said a spokesperson for the City of LaFayette. “But for everyone’s safety, please stay off the climbing features until the park officially opens.”
Greenway Park is being made possible through a $2.2 million federal grant, part of a broader local initiative to revitalize and reconnect LaFayette’s Downtown area. The investment reflects the city’s commitment to enhancing outdoor spaces and community wellness.
As progress continues, city officials thank residents for their patience and ongoing support.
“We’re proud of this project and what it means for the future of LaFayette,” the spokesperson added. “We can’t wait to welcome everyone when the time comes.”
