A man wanted on felony charges in Walker County, Georgia is dead after a police shooting in Chattanooga.  Authorities say 38-year-old Erick Charles Roberson was shot Monday night after ramming a deputy’s patrol car in a McDonald’s drive-thru on Highway 58.  The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says deputies had been tracking Roberson, who was wanted in three counties — including felony warrants in both Bradley and Walker. In Walker County, he faced charges of fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, as well as a misdemeanor traffic offense.  Around 10 p.m., an automatic license plate reader flagged Roberson’s vehicle. Deputies and Chattanooga Police followed him into the McDonald’s parking lot, where they attempted a takedown.  Sheriff Austin Garrett says Roberson immediately used his car as a weapon and rammed a patrol unit. Officers responded by opening fire.  Roberson was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. No officers were hurt.  The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now handling the case.
The Walker County School System will continue offering free breakfast and lunch to all students for the 2025–2026 school year.  Thanks to the federal Community Eligibility Provision, families won’t need to fill out meal applications—every student automatically qualifies.  Each child will receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day. Extra items like snacks or second helpings will still cost extra.  Officials say the program supports student health and eases financial stress for families.
Local law enforcement is warning residents about a phone scam using the name of a real officer and a spoofed department phone number.  A caller posing as Assistant Chief Jason Steadman falsely claimed to have Homeland Security info about a resident.  Police say it’s a scam—no such investigation exists. They’re reminding the public: officers will never call to ask for personal or financial information.  If you get a call like this, hang up and report it to police right away.
