SHARE NOW

Walker County’s unemployment rate ticked up slightly in June, rising to 3.4%, according to newly released data. That’s a modest increase from 3.2% in May, but still slightly lower than the 3.5% rate recorded in June of last year.

The local increase reflects a broader upward trend in jobless rates across the region and the state. Georgia’s statewide unemployment rate rose by 0.4 percentage points in June, highlighting softening labor conditions.

Among neighboring counties, Catoosa County reported a small rise to 3.2%, while Dade County saw a half-point jump to 3.5%. Chattooga County recorded the region’s highest increase, with unemployment rising from 3.8% to 4.3%. Despite the uptick, all three counties are still reporting better rates than June 2024, when unemployment in Chattooga County hovered around 5%.
