State Representative Mike Cameron (R-Rossville) is applauding what he calls a major victory for Northwest Georgia as Pilgrim’s, a global food production leader, announced plans to build a $400 million prepared foods facility in LaFayette. The project is expected to bring more than 630 new jobs to Walker County, which lies within Cameron’s House District 1.
“Pilgrim’s is a global leader in food production, and their commitment to creating new opportunities for Georgia families and investing in our local economy will enhance our workforce and contribute to a promising future for the region,” Cameron said following the announcement. “This is a significant win for Walker County and the entire Northwest Georgia community.”
The new facility will be located in the Walker County Business Park and will produce a variety of fully cooked chicken products. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025, with hiring expected to start in 2027 as the first phase nears completion.
Cameron credited both Governor Brian Kemp and local leaders in LaFayette and Walker County for their roles in securing the project.
“I want to thank Governor Kemp for his leadership and continued support of Georgia’s economic growth,” Cameron said. “Additionally, I’d like to acknowledge the local leadership in LaFayette and Walker County for their work to make this expansion possible. This effort will ensure that our community remains a hub for job creation and economic opportunity for years to come.”
Pilgrim’s currently supports approximately 7,500 jobs across Georgia and operates seven food production facilities in the state. The company employs more than 61,000 people worldwide, with operations in 14 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and continental Europe.
The LaFayette plant marks one of the most significant industrial investments in Walker County history and is expected to further solidify the region’s role in Georgia’s growing food manufacturing sector.
