SPLOST funds are back in focus for Walker County. County leaders will meet this evening in a special called session to decide how to distribute millions of dollars from the 2026 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST. An intergovernmental agreement on the use and distribution of those proceeds is expected to be on the table. In addition, commissioners will consider a resolution aimed at allocating excess revenue from the 2020 SPLOST, signaling more projects or services could benefit from the surplus funds. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Walker County Commissioners Office on South Duke Street in LaFayette. Other items on the agenda include approving minutes from the August 7th meeting, commissioner comments, and standard procedural business. And a quick reminder: the next regular commissioners meeting is set for Thursday, September 4th — now with a new location — at 201 South Duke Street.
Drivers heading north on I-75 tomorrow — be prepared for delays. The Georgia Department of Transportation says it will close the right northbound lane between mile markers 352 and 354 in Catoosa County to repair a section of the roadway. The lane closure is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27th, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., weather permitting. GDOT urges drivers to slow down, use caution, and expect backups in the area. Motorists may want to plan for extra travel time or consider an alternate route. For real-time updates, visit 511-G-A-dot-org or check the 511 Georgia app.
