The Walker County Board of Education will hold a planning session Tuesday, September 9th at 6 p.m. at the Advancing Education Center in Chickamauga. The agenda includes AP Scholar recognitions for Ridgeland High School, updates on facilities, finances, curriculum, and the LAUNCH program. The board will also review a transportation contract for LaFayette High School and discuss personnel matters in executive session. The meeting is open to the public.
Also tonight, The City of LaFayette will hold a public hearing on the proposed millage rate Monday, September 8th at 6:15 p.m., followed by the regular council meeting at 6:30. On the agenda: adopting the millage rate, budget discussions, Greenway Park improvements, market road closures, and a Safe Streets planning grant. Council will also review an audit and enter executive session to discuss real estate, litigation, and personnel. The public is invited to attend.
Weather permitting, GDOT crews will be repairing a bridge on I-75 today. The work will shut down the right northbound lane near milepost 353 in Catoosa County from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers should expect delays and are urged to slow down and use caution in the work zone. Walker County officials announced Friday —the expanded playground at Walker Rocks Park is now open! The new play area, located behind the Walker County Civic Center, is ready for kids to enjoy. Officials ask visitors to stay on the rubber play surface and avoid the green-colored dirt where grass is being hydroseeded. More details are expected this week, but for now, the playground is officially open for fun!
