Walker County is getting a $25,000 boost for historic preservation, thanks to a federal grant awarded through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.  The funding will support phase two of a project to resurvey historic resources in the southern part of the county — specifically between Highway 151 and West Armuchee Valley Road.  Researchers will review more than 250 sites, including historic homes, businesses, community landmarks, and farm buildings — along with unique structures like water towers, wells, bridges, and monuments.  The goal is to help preserve and document the county’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Walker County Campus in Rock Spring will host an Open House this Thursday, October 16th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The event is part of a college-wide Open House happening at all six GNTC campuses, offering campus tours, program info, and a chance to meet faculty and staff. GNTC will also waive the $25 application fee for anyone who applies in person that day.  Visitors can learn about admissions, financial aid, and career services — plus take home GNTC giveaways.  For details, contact GNTC Admissions at 866-983-4682 or visit GNTC.edu.
