A warning from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office—be on the lookout for a phone scam targeting local residents.  Officials say scammers are posing as deputies, calling individuals and claiming there’s an active warrant for their arrest. The caller then demands payment over the phone to avoid being taken into custody.  The Sheriff’s Office wants to make it clear:  They will never call you about a warrant, and they will never ask for payment over the phone.  If you get a call like this, do not provide any personal information or payment. Instead, hang up and contact the Walker County Sheriff’s Office directly to report it. Stay alert and help spread the word to protect others from falling victim.
Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period is now open. Running through December 7th, Medicare beneficiaries have the chance to review their current plans and make changes for 2026.  This is the only time each year most people can switch Medicare plans, enroll in a new one, or make changes to their coverage. And with premiums, deductibles, and drug costs changing annually, reviewing your options could help save money.  Those with Original Medicare can consider Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plans, many of which now include extras like dental, vision, hearing, transportation, and even meal delivery after hospital stays.  Again, the deadline to make changes is December 7th—and any updates will take effect January 1st, 2026.
