Walker County Commission Notes Cost Savings, Approves Variances at November Meeting

The Walker County Commission met on November 6, 2025, addressing financial updates, property matters, and community services during its regular session.

Commissioners began by approving the meeting agenda and minutes from the previous session. County officials reported an estimated $12,000 in annual savings following an audit of employee headcount and payroll. The board also noted that county offices will be closed for upcoming holiday observances.

Officials reviewed the recent passage of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). The approved measure is expected to generate $26.9 million over five years, with projected revenues potentially reaching $33.2 million if collections remain strong.

The Chattanooga Area Food Bank provided an update, reporting that it served 190,000 individuals over the past year, including 47,000 children, through its regional distribution network and local partners.

Commissioners approved two property variance requests. Joseph Lloyd was granted a setback variance, while Thomas Guthrie received approval to divide a parcel of land.

The board also discussed a new road maintenance agreement with Walker County Stone LLC. Additionally, commissioners approved a purchase order for the replacement of an HVAC system in a county facility.

The meeting adjourned with no further public comments.
