Authorities are investigating a serious three-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that happened last night on LaFayette Road at Chambers Street in Rossville. Officials say the crash resulted in severe injuries, and both southbound lanes were closed as emergency crews work at the scene. The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash. More details as soon as they are released.
The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery that happened early Tuesday morning at the Handi-Mart on Highway 48 in Menlo. Sheriff Mark Schrader says a man dressed in dark clothing went into the store around one a.m., pulled a gun, and demanded money from the clerk before taking off on foot. Deputies are continuing to investigate and review security footage. Anyone who saw anything unusual in the area is asked to call Investigator Jason Burrage at 706-857-3411.
A Walker County officer was injured in a crash Monday morning in Fort Oglethorpe. It happened around eight o’clock on Battlefield Parkway near the Steak ‘n Shake and Chick-fil-A. Reports say Social Security Officer Richard Williams suffered a medical episode, causing his vehicle to enter the intersection at Fant Drive, where it was hit on the driver’s side by a dump truck. Williams was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Georgia State Patrol says the investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office will begin auditing the November 4th elections this week. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon at three o’clock at the State Capitol to launch the process. During the event, officials will roll twenty ten-sided dice to randomly select ballot batches for review in the Risk Limiting Audit of the District 2 Public Service Commission race. County election officials will start their audits Thursday and must finish by Monday. Details on each county’s audit schedule will be posted on county websites.
