Channing Wilson continued his surge on The Road Sunday night, earning the highest audience rating for the third straight week and solidifying his status as one of the competition’s frontrunners.

Wilson, who previously finished in the Top 3 in Week 1 and topped his group in Week 2, opened his Oklahoma City set with a cover of “The Weatherman.” Judges praised both his vocal delivery and his easy connection with the audience. For his original performance, he debuted “Gettin’ Out of My Mind,” which he described as a honky-tonk, boot-stomping track. Keith Urban called it a “great choice,” while Blake Shelton said Wilson “played to the room perfectly” and urged him to keep pushing forward in the competition.

Urban noted that the show could mark Wilson’s long-awaited breakout, pointing out that major success can come later in life. Shelton echoed the sentiment, saying he wants to see Wilson advance deep into the season.

While Wilson soared, the night proved more challenging for others in the Top 9.

Billie Jo Jones, still battling illness after a difficult outing in Dallas, delivered a powerhouse version of Martina McBride’s “Broken Wing,” followed by her original “Whose Tequila Are You Drinkin’?” Shelton said her performance was strong but emphasized the difficulty of following Wilson on stage.

Briana Adams took the biggest risk of the night with a cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.” Urban said he liked the performance but would not have chosen that song in a rowdy bar setting. Her original, “Belle of the Beer Bash,” energized the crowd, but the judges felt the overall gamble didn’t fully pay off.

Adam Sanders earned praise for his cover of “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” though judges said they want to see more versatility from him. His original song, “Burning Roses,” a slower power ballad, drew positive feedback and highlighted his strengths.

Britnee Kellogg closed out the night with Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and an original titled “She’s Come a Long Way.” Both Urban and Shelton praised her vocal power and ability to connect emotionally with the audience.

When results were revealed, Wilson once again earned the highest rating of the night. Billie Jo Jones and Briana Adams landed in the bottom two, and the judges ultimately sent Adams home.

Jones, Wilson, Sanders and Kellogg will advance to the next stop of the tour competition in Tulsa, joining Cassidy Daniels, Jenny Tolman and Cody Hibbard.
