The Walker County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to an ongoing phone scam in which callers falsely identify themselves as “Lieutenant Gilleland” from the sheriff’s office. According to officials, the scammer tells citizens they have missed a court date and now have an active warrant — a tactic designed to intimidate victims into providing personal information or payment.
Authorities emphasize that this is a scam, and the sheriff’s office will never contact individuals by phone to demand money, threaten arrest over missed court, or request sensitive personal information.
“We will not contact you for things like this and we will never ask for money over the phone,” the sheriff’s office said.
Residents are urged to hang up immediately if they receive such a call, provide no information, and never send money to unknown individuals. The department also encourages the public to share this warning so it can reach others who may be concerned or vulnerable to the scam.
Anyone with questions or who believes they may have been targeted can contact the Walker County Sheriff’s Office directly.
