Local officials provided an 11:00 a.m. update Friday morning as crews continue preparations ahead of winter weather impacts across Walker County and the City of LaFayette.
Residents can now view a live map showing the roads traveled by county crews at https://tinyurl.com/4r5y25vr. Officials emphasized that the map reflects where crews have been deployed, not which roads have been treated. Additionally, the color coding on the map identifies individual crews and does not indicate current road conditions.
At this time, crews are actively pre-treating bridges, hills, and areas around stop signs. Officials report that roadways remain passable, but motorists are urged to continue using caution as conditions may change.
In response to the cold weather, Walker County and the City of LaFayette will open warming shelters beginning at 12:00 p.m. today. The shelters will provide cots, bottled water, and snacks. Residents planning to stay overnight are asked to bring their own bedding, including sheets, blankets, and pillows.
Warming shelters will be located at:
-
Rossville Community Center, 301 Williams Street, Rossville
-
LaFayette Church of God, 1002 South Main Street, LaFayette
Officials encourage residents to stay informed through official county and city updates and to take necessary precautions during the ongoing winter weather event.
