Overflow Crowd Forces Postponement of Chickamauga City Council Meeting

A highly anticipated meeting of the Chickamauga City Council was postponed Friday afternoon after an overflow crowd exceeded the capacity of the scheduled venue.

The meeting, which was to be held at the Chickamauga Civic Center, was intended to serve as a public hearing regarding the potential removal of Mayor Trey Deck. However, the Civic Center has a capacity of just 66 people, and a large turnout left many residents standing outside the building and looking through windows.

Because of the overcrowding, the council voted to postpone the meeting to a later date and move it to a larger venue. The decision came almost immediately after the meeting began, with one council member making the motion to delay due to safety and space concerns.

Council members have not released details explaining why Mayor Deck may face removal, a lack of information that frustrated many residents who attended. Several people gathered outside the Civic Center voiced concerns over what they described as a lack of transparency from city officials.

Residents said they came seeking answers, only to leave without any new information or a set date for the rescheduled hearing.

City council members said they plan to reschedule the public hearing soon and assured residents that more information will be provided once a larger venue is secured.

No new meeting date has been announced.
