Clocks “Spring Forward” This Weekend as Daylight Saving Time Begins
Residents across the Tri-State area will need to set their clocks ahead one hour this weekend as Daylight Saving Time begins.
The time change takes place at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning, when clocks move forward one hour to 3:00 a.m.
That means most people will lose one hour of sleep Saturday night, but will gain longer daylight hours in the evening as spring approaches.
Most smartphones, computers, and digital devices will automatically adjust to the new time. However, clocks on appliances, vehicles, and other manual devices may need to be set ahead before going to bed Saturday night.
Daylight Saving Time will remain in effect until early November.
Many safety experts also recommend using the time change as a reminder to check smoke detectors, replace batteries if needed, and review emergency plans for your home.
The official start of spring arrives later this month on March 20.
Residents are reminded: “Spring Forward” one hour before going to bed Saturday night.
