Voters in Walker County turned out in modest numbers for Tuesday’s special election, with 10,427 ballots cast out of more than 44,000 registered voters.
According to election totals, the county recorded a voter turnout of 23.68 percent.
Of the ballots cast, 4,543 were submitted during advance voting, 235 were absentee ballots returned by mail, and 5,649 votes were cast on Election Day.
In the race for Georgia’s Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, Clay Fuller led the field in Walker County with 4,482 votes. Shawn Harris received 2,755 votes, while Colton Moore finished with 2,169 votes locally.
Because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote districtwide, Fuller and Harris will face each other in a runoff election scheduled for next month.
Walker County voters also weighed in on the race for the Georgia State Senate District 53 seat.
Lanny Thomas was the top vote-getter in Walker County with 4,296 votes. Jack Zibluk received 2,656 votes, followed by Denise Pierce Burns with 2,004 votes and Blake Elsberry with 1,197 votes.
Thomas and Zibluk will advance to a runoff election next month to determine who will fill the District 53 seat.
