The Chickamauga City Council has accepted the resignation of the city’s mayor, effective immediately.

In a statement released March 20th, council members say the decision comes after a lengthy review, with a focus on fairness, transparency, and adherence to the city charter.

Leaders emphasized that their priority throughout the process was acting in the best interest of Chickamauga residents.

With the resignation now finalized, officials say they are turning their attention back to serving the community and moving forward.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to responsible leadership and maintaining public trust.

… Relief could soon be on the way for drivers across Georgia, including in Walker County. Governor Brian Kemp is expected to sign new legislation that would temporarily suspend the state’s motor fuel tax. Lawmakers passed House Bill 1199 to help offset rising fuel costs and provide immediate financial relief to families and commuters. Once signed, the measure could lower prices at the pump statewide. Officials say more details—including how long the tax break will last—will be announced after the bill becomes law.

Walker County authorities report a series of recent jail bookings. Among those arrested, 66-year-old Daymon Baine faces felony charges including possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a Schedule II substance. Fifty-year-old Andy Mann was booked on multiple serious felony charges, including child molestation and aggravated sexual battery.

Several misdemeanor arrests were also reported, including simple assault, obstruction, and driving-related offenses. Other charges include cruelty to children and simple battery.

Officials remind the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

… The Walker County Board of Elections and Registration is reminding voters about early voting for the upcoming Special Runoff Election on April seventh. Early voting will be held exclusively at the Walker County Elections Office, located at 311 South Main Street in LaFayette.

Voters can cast their ballots from March 30th through April 2nd, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day. Officials note that no additional early voting locations will be available for this runoff.
