Georgia State Senate District 53 candidate Lanny Thomas says he is recovering and plans to continue campaigning following a recent medical emergency. Thomas suffered a severe medical event two weeks ago that required surgery around his heart. In a release Sunday, he said he is on the path to a full recovery and that his medical team is confident in his ability to serve if elected. Thomas thanked God and his medical team for his recovery and says he hopes to finish rehab and return home by the end of next week. He is also encouraging voters to take part in the April 7th runoff election.
Crews will be working today to replace the culvert on Ivy Street. The road will be closed from Highway 27 to Carline Road. Please plan accordingly as you travel around the county.
Two Georgia lawmakers are applauding the passage of legislation aimed at helping residents recover unclaimed money held by the state.
State Representative Matt Reeves and State Senator Kay Kirkpatrick say Senate Bill 403 would make it easier for Georgians to claim part of the nearly three billion dollars in unclaimed funds. The bill creates an exact match program to help return money such as old utility deposits and other unclaimed property, while also simplifying the process for heirs to claim smaller amounts. Senate Bill 403 has passed both chambers unanimously and now heads back to the State Senate for final consideration of House amendments.
