The Walker County Coroner’s Office has officially opened a new morgue facility, marking a significant step forward in its mission to serve the community with professionalism, compassion, and integrity.
The facility is dedicated in memory of the late Honorable W.E. “Bill” McGill, who served as Walker County Coroner from 1978 to 2002. McGill’s decades of service left a lasting impact on the county, as he became known for his compassion toward families and his unwavering commitment to public service. Officials say the new facility reflects the same standards of respect and excellence that defined his career.
Coroner Hon. William H. “Billy” Sims said the opening represents more than just a new building—it is a continuation of a legacy rooted in care for the community during its most difficult moments.
The Coroner’s Office also expressed appreciation to Chairwoman Angie Teems and the Walker County Board of Commissioners for their support in bringing the project to completion. Their leadership and dedication were key in making the new facility a reality.
