SHARE NOW

Walker County is inviting residents to help shape its future as officials begin the process of updating the county’s comprehensive plan with a series of public meetings.

The first stakeholder session is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Walker County Civic Center in Rock Spring. Two additional meetings are already planned for May 28 and June 25 as part of the ongoing effort.

County leaders say the comprehensive plan serves as a long-term roadmap used by Walker County and its municipalities to guide growth, prioritize infrastructure and improve public services. Maintaining an up-to-date plan is also critical for remaining eligible for certain state grants and funding opportunities.

The update process is being conducted in partnership with the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, which is assisting with data analysis, community engagement and planning strategies.

During each session, participants will hear presentations on current conditions and future projections before taking part in breakout discussions. Officials are seeking feedback on a wide range of topics, including economic development, housing, transportation, land use and community services.

Local leaders emphasize that community input will play a key role in shaping the final plan, encouraging residents, business owners and other stakeholders to attend and share their perspectives.

All meetings are open to the public.
