Walker County has been declared a primary natural disaster area due to drought.  It’s one of 126 counties across Georgia included in the designation.  The announcement comes from the Georgia Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  The declaration allows eligible farmers to apply for emergency loans through the Farm Service Agency.  Officials say ongoing dry conditions are increasing costs and creating uncertainty for producers.  Farmers are encouraged to contact their local FSA office for assistance.
