Early voting is off to a strong start in Walker County, where 419 residents have already cast ballots during the first days of Georgia’s 2026 primary election.

The local turnout comes as early voting numbers are surging statewide. According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office, a record 35,352 Georgians voted in person on the first day of early voting—marking a 29 percent increase compared to the 2022 primary.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the strong turnout reflects voter confidence.

“This record-breaking turnout is proof that Georgians trust our election process,” Raffensperger said. “My office is in constant coordination with county election officials to ensure early voting continues to run smoothly.”

By comparison, 27,298 voters participated on the first day of early voting in the 2022 primary, while just 9,266 cast ballots on the first day in 2018.

In addition to in-person voting, election officials report that 1,732 absentee ballots have already been accepted. Overall, more than 111,000 Georgians have voted early so far in the 2026 primary election.

Early voting continues across the state in the coming days, with officials encouraging eligible voters to take advantage of the expanded opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.
