The city recently accepted a $1.45 million federal grant to begin removing contamination from the 130-acre property and hopes to secure another $4 million by June. Officials say the former mill site could eventually become home to restaurants, businesses, and green space. Public meetings are also planned this summer as redevelopment efforts move forward.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety is warning residents about scam text messages claiming to be from the Georgia State Patrol. Residents are urged not to click any links or respond to the messages. Instead, delete the text immediately.
Newborn safety devices, often called “baby boxes,” will now be allowed at fire stations, police stations, hospitals, and ambulance services across Georgia under legislation signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp. The measure was authored by State Representative Mike Cameron. House Bill 350 creates a safe, secure, and monitored option for newborn surrender during emergencies. Facilities using the devices must also have emergency medical personnel on-site 24-hours a day.
