          A LaFayette man was killed Saturday evening in a motorcycle accident in Chattooga County.  According to the Chattooga County Coroner’s Office, 39-year-old James Cody Penland of LaFayette died after his motorcycle left Shinbone Valley Road in the Menlo area and struck a tree.  The crash was discovered by a passer-by around 6:18 Saturday evening. Officials say no other vehicles are believed to be involved.  The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
          Georgia drivers will continue getting relief at the gas pump through Memorial Day. Governor Brian Kemp has signed an executive order extending the state’s gas tax suspension for another two weeks — from May 20th through June 3rd.  The move follows the current suspension set to expire May 19th. Georgia’s gas tax is normally 33-point-3 cents per gallon for gasoline and 37-point-3 cents for diesel.
          Just a reminder tomorrow is Election Day across Walker County.  You must vote at your assigned precinct.
          The Walker County Board of Education meets tonight at 6 at the Department of Education building in LaFayette.  Board members will recognize Bank of LaFayette, Naomi Elementary School, and students from LaFayette High School involved in FFA and CTI programs.  The board will also consider several contracts and agreements involving student services, athletic trainers and after-school programs.
          The Georgia Yellow Dot Program is helping first responders access important medical information during emergencies.  Participants place a yellow folder with medical details, emergency contacts and medications in their glove compartment, along with a yellow sticker on the driver’s side rear window.  The free program is especially helpful for seniors and anyone with medical conditions or allergies.
