Voters in Walker County turned out heavily for Republican candidates during Tuesday’s Georgia primary election, with GOP voters outnumbering Democrats by wide margins in several statewide races.

According to election data, Walker County Republicans cast 7,206 votes in the governor’s race compared to 1,691 Democratic ballots. In the Secretary of State race, Republicans recorded 6,604 votes while Democrats totaled 1,610. Republican voters also outpaced Democrats in the Attorney General contest, 6,688 to 1,629.

The Lt. Governor race produced a closer local turnout split, with Republicans casting 1,890 votes and Democrats recording 1,614 votes.

Across Georgia, more than one million voters participated in Tuesday’s primary elections, according to data from the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office.

Statewide numbers showed Democrats continuing to hold an overall turnout advantage compared to Republicans, exceeding GOP participation by more than 150,000 votes on average, according to federal and state election data. However, counties across Northwest Georgia saw much stronger Republican turnout patterns.

Several major statewide races are now headed to runoff elections scheduled for June 16.

The Republican gubernatorial race advanced to a runoff between Burt Jones and healthcare executive Rick Jackson after neither candidate secured enough votes to win the nomination outright.

The winner of the Republican runoff will face former Keisha Lance Bottoms in the November general election for governor.

Additional statewide races advancing to runoffs include contests for lieutenant governor and secretary of state on both the Republican and Democratic ballots.
