The Cherokee Regional Library System is inviting families across northwest Georgia to dig into reading and discovery this summer with its free all-ages Summer Reading 2026 program, “Unearth a Story.”

The annual summer initiative will run from June 1 through July 19 at branch libraries in Chickamauga, LaFayette, Rossville, and Trenton, offering a variety of free educational programs, hands-on activities, prizes, and family experiences centered around this year’s theme of dinosaurs, paleontology, and archaeology.

Library officials say the program is designed to encourage reading and provide enriching educational opportunities for children, teens, and adults throughout Walker and Dade counties.

“Libraries are bridges,” said Lecia Eubanks, Director of Cherokee Regional Library System. “They create a space where children of all ages and backgrounds can access quality educational experiences at no cost — whether that means checking out a book, joining one of our in-person programs, or grabbing a free experience pass and having an unforgettable day with their family. This summer, we want every child in our community to know: the library is for them.”

Participants can sign up online through Beanstack at chrl.beanstack.org or pick up a paper reading log at any branch library. Readers will be able to track books and activities throughout the summer while earning tickets for grand prize drawings featuring park passes, gift cards, and other prizes.

Officials said participants who complete their reading goals by the end of the program will also receive a free book to keep and add to their personal home library.

In addition to reading challenges, branch libraries will host numerous themed programs and workshops throughout the summer.

At the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library, upcoming featured events include Pioneer Day on June 9 at 11 a.m., offering pioneer-themed activities for families, a Felt Pennant Workshop for students in grades 6-12 on June 4 at 5 p.m., and a Mahjong Class for adults on July 16 at 5 p.m.

Library leaders encourage residents to visit their local branch or check the online calendar at chrl.org for a complete schedule of events and activities throughout the summer.

Summer Reading 2026 officially begins June 1, and participants may register at any point during the program.
