The Walker County Board of Commissioners will spend three days in June reviewing funding requests and budget priorities as county leaders begin work on the Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
The board has scheduled budget work sessions for June 9, 10 and 11 at Courthouse Annex I, also known as the County Administration Building, located at 101 South Duke Street in LaFayette. All sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and provide department heads an opportunity to present their budget requests and discuss operational needs for the upcoming fiscal year.
The first day of budget discussions, June 9, is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., with presentations taking place from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and again from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. following a lunch recess.
The June 10 session is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., with presentations continuing throughout the morning before adjournment.
The final work session on June 11 will begin at 9 a.m. and continue through the afternoon. Presentations will be held from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., followed by a lunch recess. The board will reconvene at 1:30 p.m. for additional presentations before concluding the workshop at 2 p.m.
The budget review process will continue later in the month when commissioners hold a special called meeting at 8:30 a.m. on June 26 at Courthouse Annex IV, located at 101 South Duke Street in LaFayette. During that meeting, the county’s chief financial officer is expected to formally present the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget to the board for consideration.
The annual budget process allows commissioners to review departmental funding requests, evaluate county priorities and develop a spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year before adoption later in the year.
