Early voting is underway in the Primary Runoff Election. Early voting runs through Friday at the Walker County Elections Office in LaFayette and the Chickamauga Civic Center. Several statewide races remain undecided, including contests for U.S. Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State. Voters who participated in the May primary must vote in the same party’s runoff. Election Day is Tuesday, June 16.
The Fort Oglethorpe Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a person of interest in a theft investigation. Detectives say the individual is connected to a theft at a local retail business. A photo of the person can be viewed now at DiscoverWalker.com. Anyone who recognizes the individual or has information is asked to contact Detective Tucker at the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department.
Motorists on Lookout Mountain should expect delays this week as the Georgia Department of Transportation conducts emergency pipe repairs. State Route 157 at the intersection of State Route 136 will be closed through tomorrow, weather permitting. Northbound traffic on SR-157 will be detoured onto SR-136 and then SR-189 back to SR-157. Drivers are urged to follow detour signs, slow down in the work zone, and allow extra travel time. GDOT expects the road to reopen once repairs are completed tomorrow.
The Walker County Board of Education meets today starting at 5. The board will hold budget hearings before the start of the planning session at 6pm. The budget hearings and planning session will be held at the Advancing Education Center on Osburn Road in Chickamauga. The regular board meeting takes place next Monday night.
