A proposed gondola system for Rock City has hit a roadblock. The Lookout Mountain, Georgia Planning Commission voted 5-to-2 Wednesday against a zoning amendment that would have allowed gondolas as a permitted use under the city’s ordinance. The proposal would transport visitors from a planned parking area near Flintstone to the attraction atop Lookout Mountain. The project has sparked months of debate, with supporters citing traffic relief and opponents raising concerns about growth, safety, and neighborhood impacts. The matter is expected to move to the Lookout Mountain City Council for further consideration.
