The LaFayette Mayor and City Council meet tonight at 6:30 at City Hall. On the agenda are several infrastructure and public works items, including a replacement arm for a garbage truck, vegetation management, airport and golf course signage, a proposed crosswalk at Traverse Park, and the city’s 10-year water and sewer outlook. Council members will also discuss upcoming community events. The meeting is open to the public.
The Walker County Tax Commissioner’s Office will hold a tax sale this morning at 10. The sale will take place in the Bank of LaFayette Community Room at 104 North Main Street in LaFayette. Properties with delinquent taxes will be offered during the public auction. Anyone planning to attend should arrive before the 10 a.m. start time.
The Fort Oglethorpe Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a person of interest in a theft investigation. Detectives say the individual is wanted in connection with a theft at a local retail business. You can view photos of the individual on our website at DiscoverWalker.com. CommonSpirit Health has temporarily paused some outpatient imaging services at its Tennessee and North Georgia facilities while it works to resolve radiology delays caused by software issues during a transition to a new provider. Patients affected by the pause will be contacted to reschedule. Cardiology imaging and mammography services will continue as scheduled. CommonSpirit has not said when normal operations will resume.
The Walker County Animal Shelter is taking part in the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” adoption event through July 26. Adoption fees have been reduced to $25 for dogs and cats older than four months, while fees for younger puppies and kittens have been waived. Shelter officials say they’ve taken in 61 animals in the past 10 days and urgently need adopters. The shelter is open today from 10 until 4.
