Walker County commissioners will vote on the county’s 2027 budget at their next meeting on September 3rd.  Commissioners held another public meeting Tuesday to discuss the budget, after a vote was postponed earlier this month over a one-point-nine-million-dollar shortfall.  The board is considering two options for employee pay. One calls for a three-percent cost-of-living increase, while the other would provide a one-time, one-thousand-five-hundred-dollar payment.  Both options would use money from the county’s fund balance.  Officials say there will be no property tax increase or change to the public safety fee, and the county will use a full rollback millage rate.  Commissioners also plan to add three firefighters, rather than the nine originally proposed.  The final budget vote is set for September 3rd.
