The Lookout Mountain Town Council will hold a special meeting September 21st at 6pm. The meeting comes at the request of Rock City Enterprises, which is proposing a 30-million-dollar gondola project. The meeting will focus on proposed zoning ordinance amendments involving permitted uses in the Tourist-Oriented Commercial District and nonconforming uses. The gondola project is not specifically listed on the agenda, but the zoning amendments are the meeting’s only agenda item. The meeting is open to the public, but is not a public hearing.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office says it uses four fixed-site Flock license plate reader cameras, calling them an excellent tool for law enforcement. According to WRCB-TV, Sheriff Steve Wilson says the cameras are used to locate missing children and adults, assist with traffic enforcement, provide investigative leads, and help serve misdemeanor and felony warrants. The cameras have drawn controversy following Hamilton County’s decision to temporarily pause its use of Flock and other license plate reader systems.
Congressman Clay Fuller says he plans to introduce federal legislation aimed at limiting the insanity defense in federal criminal cases. Fuller made the announcement following a mistrial in the Massachusetts case of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of killing her three children. The jury reportedly voted 11-to-one in favor of finding Clancy not criminally responsible, but failed to reach a unanimous verdict. Fuller says mental illness should not be used to avoid accountability.
Georgia’s statewide deer archery season opens this Saturday. The Department of Natural Resources says hunters may use archery equipment throughout the entire 2026-2027 deer season. Wildlife officials are reminding hunters to make tree stand safety a priority. Last season, 18 of Georgia’s 24 reported hunting incidents involved tree stands, including two fatalities. Hunters are urged to inspect their equipment and review proper safety procedures before heading into the woods.
