A section of the Bluff Trail on Lookout Mountain has been temporarily closed because of reports of aggressive wildlife. Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park says the closure covers the trail between Cravens House Trail and the base of the metal staircase below Point Park. Hikers are asked not to enter the affected area until the park announces it has reopened. Officials have not identified the wildlife involved or said how long the closure will last.
The Rossville City Council spent part of Monday’s meeting discussing the proposed BridgTRK project and the city’s Flock cameras. BridgTRK co-founder Joe Morgan told the council the project is not a traditional data center, but what he calls a “compact access node.” Morgan says it would use very little water and about as much power as a typical home. Mayor Jonathan Lassetter also addressed the sale of the four-acre property on Bulldog Street where the project is planned. Lassetter said the county did not tell him there was a closing date, and he received no information before the property was sold. The council also heard from the Rossville Police Department about the city’s Flock camera system. Rossville currently has three cameras, owned by the city and county. Police say the cameras are a useful law-enforcement tool, and they will continue to be used. To help ensure the system is used properly, police say only three officers currently have full access to the Flock system. The next Rossville City Council meeting is scheduled for October 12th.
The Chickamauga City Council meets tonight at six o’clock at the Civic Center on Lee Clarkson Road. Council members will take up the city’s proposed property tax rates, which would remain at zero mills for general government and 14 mills for the city school district. They’ll also discuss retiree health insurance and short-term vacation rentals. And looking ahead to Friday, Congressman Clay Fuller is expected in Chickamauga for an announcement of a four-million-dollar EPA grant for the city.
