Residents and visitors will have an opportunity to explore local history on two wheels this weekend as Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park partners with Outdoor Chattanooga to offer a free guided bicycle tour of the Chickamauga Battlefield.
The tour is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the lower parking lot of the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center.
The approximately four-mile ride will last about three hours, giving participants an opportunity to experience the historic battlefield from a different perspective while enjoying the outdoors.
The tour is suitable for children ages 10 and older, provided they are accompanied by an adult.
For those who do not have their own bicycles, loaner bikes will be available at no charge through a sponsorship from National Park Partners. However, bicycles must be reserved in advance and are available only for riders who are at least five feet tall.
Organizers encourage anyone needing a loaner bicycle to complete the required pre-registration before the event.
The bicycle tour offers a unique opportunity for families, history enthusiasts and outdoor recreation lovers to experience one of Northwest Georgia’s most significant historic sites.
The event is free and open to eligible participants. Those interested in borrowing a bicycle can find reservation information through Outdoor Chattanooga’s online registration system.
