A lieutenant with the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office has been fired and now faces criminal charges. This comes after an investigation revealed he claimed to have worked security for a local church, but never showed up to do so, according to authorities. A release from Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk says his department got a complaint about Lieutenant Keith Cantrell. Cantrell was hired by a local church to provide security. He never showed up for work but submitted timesheets. Catoosa County got the GBI involved in the investigation. The GBI’s report says that Cantrell violated his oath of office and other criminal laws. Cantrell was fired and has been arrested by GBI agents.

Chattooga County authorities say that Lyerly Dam Road at the bridge is closed due to rising water levels. The county EMA released the news last night. Officials say not to attempt to drive thru the area. The water is expected to start receding this morning but it’s expected to take several hours for levels to return to normal.
Monday is the last day you can register to vote in the March 18th city of LaFayette election. Tom Langford and Glenn Gunnells are running to fill the Ward 1 City Council seat. The seat opened with the passing of Beacher Garmany. Early voting starts February 24th.

LaFayette boys basketball are in the semifinals of the region tournament. Ramblers face Calhoun tonight on the Yellowjackets home court. Tip-off is set for 8:30pm. Tony Potts will have the call on Georgia 93-7. If the Ramblers win tonight, they will play in the Region Championship game at 7:30 tomorrow evening. The consolation game is set for 4:30.
