A judge this week handed down a $1.8 million judgment in a year long legal dispute between Walker County’s wastewater authority and the city of Chattanooga. A U.S. District Judge concluded that Walker County’s wastewater authority, owes Chattanooga just over $1.8 million in unpaid charges for treating large portions of the county’s raw sewage at Chattanooga’s Moccasin Bend Wastewater Treatment Plant. In addition to the unpaid charges, the judge ordered the Walker County sewer authority to pay interest on those charges for the pre-judgment period.
The judgment also authorizes Chattanooga to immediately terminate its interconnection with Walker County. Walker County’s wastewater authority directs about 2 million gallons of sewage daily to Chattanooga’s wastewater treatment plant.

Watch out for runoff areas and shaded spots. Give yourself some time and drive safely this morning.

The bill would require schools to issue maps and access points to law enforcement in case of a life-threatening situation. That system is already in place in Walker County. The county emergency center is able to see in real time where the threat is through the school’s security cameras. A mobile panic alarm for faculty and staff has not been implemented. Emergency leaders in the county say that is next.
