          A Walker County jury has convicted a 68-year-old man on 16 counts of sexual exploitation of children after a three-day trial in Superior Court.  Mark Anthony Williams was found guilty June 3rd after investigators uncovered hundreds of thousands of images and videos of child sexual abuse material during a search of his Walker County home.
The investigation began with a tip in Catoosa County and later led detectives to Williams. Prosecutors said evidence also showed Williams abused a child.  Judge Chris Arnt sentenced Williams to the maximum allowed under Georgia law — 300 years in prison, followed by 20 years of sex offender probation.  Acting District Attorney Deanna Reisman said prosecuting child predators remains a top priority for her off.
          Election Day was yesterday in Walker County.  Several big state races on the ballot.  Businessman Rick Jackson defeated Burt Jones for the Republican nominee for Governor.  Jackson won with 53% of the vote statewide.  Locally though Burt Jones won Walker County with nearly 56% of the vote.   In the race for the Republican nominee for the US Senate.  Mike Collins defeated Derek Dooley.  Collins will now face incumbent Democrat John Osoff in November.  More election results are online at DiscoverWalker.com and keep it here on Georgia 93-7 as Georgia News Network will have details on the state stories.

 

          LaFayette’s 2026 paving project is moving forward, with crews now milling roadways ahead of new pavement being installed.  Anthony Street and Foster Boulevard have been milled and are ready for paving, while work on South Duke Street is underway. Paving is expected to begin early next week.  This year’s project includes improvements on several streets, including Anthony, Pledger, Johnson, Trail Lake, Duke, and Foster Boulevard.  LaFayette is also using TSPLOST funds to improve East Villanow Street from Main Street to Highway 27 while awaiting future GDOT resurfacing plans.
          Walker County residents will soon have a new opportunity to share their opinions on local issues through a community survey program.  County officials are launching a new FlashVote community survey and are inviting residents to join the community panel.  Participants can provide feedback on topics affecting the county and help local leaders better understand community priorities.  Residents who have not yet signed up can register by visiting flashvote.com slash walkercountyga.
