Walker County Schools Superintendent Damon Raines was given a contract extension at least week’s school board meeting. The Walker County Board of Education voted to extended the Superintendents contract which wasn’t due to expire until June of 2025. The new deal runs through 2027. School board members Phyllis Hunter and Karen Stoker voted against the extension.

Retire Your Tires Amnesty Day was held on Saturday. 3,309 tires were dropped off for recycling at the Walker County Landfill. Another 455 in Rossville. That’s nearly 3,800 tires county wide.

Four felony arrests Friday night in Walker County. 40-year-old Thomas Lebron Bradley was arrested after being found in possession of materials that contained a minor in sexually explicit conduct. 20-year-old Ally Shea Ledford was booked on charges of felony terroristic threats, simple assault and battery. 40-year-old Matthew Stephen Atwood was arrested and charged with exploitation/intimidation of elder/simple assault. Brandon David Hampton, also 40, was booked on drug charges including possession of multiple substances, DUI and open container violation.

A tractor trailer carrying non-hazardous materials flipped over on I-59 South in Dade County yesterday. The incident had the interstate shut down for a while. Traffic was diverted off at the Trenton exit while the Georgia State Patrol worked the crash.
