Today is the first day of early voting in Walker County. Election day is May 21st.
A late-night fire in Walker County claimed the life of one person on Friday. Walker County Fire Rescue responded to a call just before 11:30 p.m. about a house fire at 569 Tinkerbell Circle in Flintstone, according to a press release from the county. They say upon arrival, fire fighters found the home about 50% involved in the fire. A search by firefighters revealed the body of a man in his late ’40s. His body will be sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy. Fire officials say no one else was inside the home or injured during the fire. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about an hour. The Walker County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Department responded to a rollover crash last night. The incident happened on Highway 136 at Highway 157. No one was seriously injured in the accident.
The Walker County Historic Preservation Commission will hold a work session one week from today. The session wis next Monday at 6pm at the Library in LaFayette. The purpose for the work session will be to finalize four wayside historical markers. The public is invited to attend.
