A Rossville man and woman are facing several drug charges after being arrested yesterday by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office says that 32-year-old Katelyn Christina Cox and 33-year-old Sean William King were arrested after a search at a home on Reece Street. The two have been charged with trafficking fentanyl after it was found inside the home. Authorities also found methamphetamine and several methadone pills. In addition to the trafficking of fentanyl, they were also charged with possession of meth and possession of a schedule II drug. King also had a warrant through the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office for a failure to appear.
Lafayette firefighters worked to extinguish a woods and grass fire Monday afternoon.
Firefighters said the fire was near N Industrial Loop and behind homes on Pledger Parkway. There was 1.5 acres burning, according to the fire department. Lafayette and Walker County firefighters extinguished the fire, which produced a heavy amount of smoke.
Two people died Saturday after a driver crashed into a structure in Catoosa County. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened Saturday night at 11:38 on 151 near Ooltewah Ringgold Road. A 2018 Toyota Camry left the roadway and hit a structure. The vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. The driver was rescued from the crash and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The front seat and back seat passers died in the crash. According to the GSP charges for the driver are pending.
There is a planned burn this weekend at the Chickamauga Battlefield. The burn is weather permitting. The planned fire will be on approximately 500 acres north of Viniard-Alexander Road and west of Alexander Broad. The goal of the fire is to restore, protect and maintain the historic and cultural landscape. The National Park Service will conduct the burn along with the help of the US Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy and the Walker and Catoosa County Fire Departments.
