The boil water advisory remains in effect for anyone who gets water from the Lee School Road Water Treatment Plant. The city of LaFayette says the turbidity levels of the raw water continues to remain high. The city is encouraging those who are served by the water plant to try to conserve water. The Dissolved Air Filtration System that is going to help the situation at the plant is expected to arrive today. The city has crews ready to work quickly to get the system in place.
The Walker County Detention Center had 8 people booked on felony charges Monday. That includes two people arrested for stealing a motor vehicle and gang participation, 21-year-old Liza Marie Butler and 18-year-old Blake Jaden Thomas. The pair was booked in the early morning hours on Monday. 60-year-old Phillip Wayne Headrick was booked on driving on a suspended license and possession of a schedule II.
Governor Brian Kemp detailed some of his spending plans yesterday in a speech to the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. The Governor laid out some plans to use the states $11-billion in surplus cash. The plans we outlined here yesterday involve infrastructure and education. Plans call for another billion dollars to be spent on infrastructure. Kemp also plans to push a bill to improve how Georgia guides students to college or career training. The Governor did not reveal his plans for lawsuit reform. Kemp’s office told the Associated Press those plans would be released before the end of the month.
Georgia’s net tax collections for the month of December were up nearly 10-percent from 2023. Net tax collections in the state totaled almost $3.34 billion.
The LaFayette Lady Ramblers basketball team scored a road win over Adairsville last night. LaFayette won 48-42. Tamra Yancey had 16 points and 14 rebounds. The LaFayette boys lost to Adairsville 52-34.
