A special election to determine the future of ESPLOST will be held in Walker County on March 18th. The ESPLOST tax is ending and voters will determine if they want to renew it. ESPLOST is a 1% sale and use tax that is earmarked for education. 86.6% of the money goes to Walker County Schools. The remaining 13.4% goes to Chickamauga City Schools.
Two felony arrests in Walker County on Wednesday. Among those arrested, 45-year-old Laura Mashelle Essex. She was booked on charges of possession of cocaine and hydrocodone, bringing stolen property into the state, DUI, expired license and no insurance.
Ridgeland Road between Burlington Drive and Dogwood Lane will be closed today between 9am and 4pm for utility work.
LaFayette’s boys’ basketball team won last night in Chattanooga. The Ramblers posted a 49-47 win over CSAS. Georgia football coach Kirby Smart was at Chattooga High School yesterday. Georgia has offered Chattooga’s class of ’27 defensive lineman Kaiden Fife a scholarship. Smart arrived on the campus in a helicopter yesterday, landing near the football field.
