When you get your power bill – expect to pay a little more this year. Georgia Power has increased their rates by 3.5% this month. That’s going to work out to about an additional $5.48 extra per month for the average residential customer. This marks the 3rd consecutive year that Georgia Power customers have seen a rate increase.
The unemployment rate declined across the state of Georgia in December. However, the unemployment rate in Northwest Georgia was up. The unemployment rate was 3.7% in our area. Initial unemployment claims were up. The number of people employed in our part of the state was down by nearly 1,200 people.
Four felony arrests in Walker County on Wednesday. 30-year-old Robin Leigham Sanders was arrested and charged with possession of meth, criminal damage and aggravated assault. 41-year-old Brandon David Hampton was booked on 3rd degree charges of cruelty to children, battery, simple assault and exploitation of an elderly person. 30-year-old Michael Chanee Ellison was charged with three counts of willful obstruction of law enforcement, simple battery, kidnapping, simple assault and violating parole. 40-year-old Richard Brent Clark was arrested on a felony parole violation.
LaFayette basketball visits Heritage tonight. The girls and boys are both in action. The Lady Ramblers currently sit 3-5 in Region 7-3A. Heritage is 6-2 in region play, just a game back of first place Gilmer. In boys action, LaFayette and Heritage are both 3-5 in the region. Calhoun and Adairsville are tied for first in the region both teams are 7-1.
