Schools and Government Closings for today:
- Walker County Schools and Chickamauga City Schools are closed.
- Catoosa County Schools are closed.
- Dade County Schools are closed but will have a remote learning day for students.
- Chattooga County is having a learn from home day. All employees of Chattooga County Schools are expected
to report on a 3-hour delay if travel is safe from their home. - Dalton State College is delayed. The campus will open at 11am.
- All campuses of GNTC are closed today.
- Walker County offices and the landfill will open at 11am this morning.
- Walker County Juvenile Court is cancelled. You will need to call to receive a new court date.
- Walker Transit is going to delay operations until noon.
- City of LaFayette offices will open at 10.
Winter weather advisory is in effect for all of Walker County. The advisory will remain in effect until 1am tonight. Slow down and use caution is you’re going to be traveling today.
A water main break in LaFayette yesterday left many without water. The break happened on West Reed Road. Crews worked and repaired the water main and service was restored yesterday afternoon.
The parking lot of the Walker County Office of Family and Children Services is being repaved this week. If you are visiting the office park in the employee parking area at the back of the building and enter on that side until the paving work is completed.
A bill headed to the Georgia Senate would issue maps and access points of a school to local law enforcement. The bills sponsor says if law enforcement has a layout of the school it would speed up a potential rescue operation. The bill also calls for teachers to have wearable panic buttons. Seven other states have similar laws in place. The bill is headed for the full senate for a vote.
