Early voting is underway now for the March 18th election in Walker County. The ballot features the race for the Ward 1 City Council seat in LaFayette. A countywide election is for the continuation of the ESPLOST. The special purpose local option sales tax that benefits education. You can vote at the Walker County Courthouse through March 14th. The polls are open Weekdays from 8am to 5pm. Saturday March 1st and March 8th the polls will be open from 9am to 5pm.

According to AAA the price of a gallon of gas in the state of Georgia and across the nation fell by one cent last week. The price of a gallon of regular unleaded in the state is now $2.99. Nationwide it’s $3.14. Walker, Catoosa and Dade counties still have the best prices in the state. The average locally is about $2.80 per gallon.

Catoosa County has given the okay to a train-tracking system. Officials hope it will help ease delays and help emergency responders at the Graysville Road crossing. The system is called TRAININFO. It features two strategically placed message boards that will provide updated information about train crossings. The average rail road crossing in Catoosa County has 19 trains pass through per day. The initial cost of the system is $105,000. The annual maintenance fee will be $19,800. Funding for the project will come from the county’s SPLOST funds.

LaFayette High School baseball is back on the field this week. The Ramblers face Cass today at 5:30pm at home. Ramblers are also home on Thursday night this week.
