The Walker County Detention Center reported four felony arrests on Tuesday. Among those arrested, 29-year-old Levi Shields Henderson. Henderson was charged with possession of meth.
Catoosa County and Trion Fire Departments spent time yesterday battling fires. In Catoosa County crews worked a large brush fire. The fire was in the 1300 block of Mack Smith Road. The blaze was behind the Fire Training Center. The Georgia Forestry Commission assisted with the fire. Officials believe the fire started in a homeless camp in the middle of the afternoon. The Trion Fire Department had to battle a fire in the woods yesterday as well. The fire was in the area of Renee Road. It covered four acres and put four structures in danger. Firefighters were able to control the fire and extinguish it. No structures on the property were damaged.
Walker County Schools is hosting a parent information night for Walker Launch. Walker Launch students take high school and college classes on campus at GNTC. Students can complete certificate, diplomas and degrees in specific programs. Most of the classes are free to students. The parent information night is next Tuesday at 6pm. It takes place in the 500 building at GNTC.
Tomorrow night make plans to look up. A planetary alignment will happen just after sunset tomorrow. Mercury, Venus, Mars and Saturn will be visible to the naked eye.
For the 3rd year in a row, Tripadvisor has named Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island one of the Top 10 beaches in the U.S. This year, Driftwood Beach moved up to number 7. It was number 8 last year. Siesta Beach in Florida claimed the top spot on Tripadvisor’s Best of the Best Beaches list, based on traveler reviews. Jekyll Island, which welcomes over 3 million visitors annually, recently celebrated the opening of a new Public Safety Complex for fire, EMS, and the Georgia State Patrol.
LaFayette High School baseball is back at home tonight. The Ramblers face LFO. It’s Military Appreciation Night. Pre-game festivities begin at 5:30pm. 1st pitch is set for 5:55pm.
