Walker County Government unveiled an updated design yesterday for a playground expansion at Walker Rocks Park at the Civic Center. Walker County received a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior-National Park Service to help complete the third phase of the park makeover. Some of the new highlights include a communication board, sensory station and sensory summit roundabout, which provides a unique climbing experience for children of all abilities. The climber features a wide basin with defined grips to allow children with limited use of their legs to participate in a climbing activity. Public input is also being requested on the selection of play sensors for the sensory station and sensory summit. A voting tab featuring pictures and a brief description of each sensor’s function can be found in the parks section of the county website. Construction on the playground expansion, as well as the addition of new pickleball courts at Walker Rocks Park, is targeted for completion before the end of the year.
