Since Tuesday six wildfires in Walker County have burned 378 acres. That’s according to the Georgia Forestry Commission. A fire in Rossville near Happy Valley Road has destroyed three homes and caused damage to 10 others. Firefighters were working yesterday to contain that fire. The others have been fully contained. The air quality index is still a concern. If you have respiratory issues, it may be best to stay indoors today. You can expect to see and smell smoke throughout the day today.

We have two Walker County schools on the under-performing list in the state of Georgia. And that means parents of those students can apply to get state money to send their kids to private schools instead. It’s part of the Georgia Promise Scholarship Program. The schools that qualify for the alternative scholarships are the bottom 25% in a state ranking. Rossville Middle School and Rossville Elementary School are both on the list. In total 15 local schools in northwest Georgia, including four high schools have made the list.

Five felony arrests in Walker County on Tuesday. 60-year-old Robert Lamar Barrett was charged with requesting an ambulance when not needed, possession of a schedule II, possession and use of drugs related objects, 2nd degree criminal damage to property and a misdemeanor theft charge. 24-year-old Brandon Ryan William McGill was charged with several traffic violations including speeding, reckless driving, improper use of center lane and other traffic violations including feeing or attempting to elude police.

After an off day today, LaFayette baseball is back at home on Friday. The Ramblers are hosting Calhoun. First pitch is at 5:30pm ET.
