It’s election day in Walker County. In LaFayette voters will be asked to select a new city councilman for Ward 1. Countywide, a renewal request from the school system on the education special purpose local option sales tax is on the ballot. Polls are open today until 7pm.
Two felony arrests in Walker County on Sunday. 28-year-old Jermaine Emory Akins was charged with tampering with evidence, criminal attempt to commit a felony, aggravated assault, kidnapping, burglary and other charges. 32-year-old Marcell Deonte Davis was booked on charges of obstruction of law enforcement, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, DUI and other traffic related violations.
Gas prices continue to drop around the state. That’s according to AAA. Locally a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.68 in Walker, Dade and Catoosa counties. That remains the best price in the state. Statewide a gallon of gas is $2.89 while nationally a gallon of gas is $3.07.
The first litter task force meeting was held yesterday. Those in attendance made several recommendations to help rid the county of litter. Citizens from across the county joined county leaders and elected officials at the meeting. More citizens are encouraged to attend the next meeting. It’s scheduled for Monday April 14th.
Turkey hunting season in Georgia opens March 29th. Youth and mobility impaired hunters get a chance to hunt this weekend. Saturday and Sunday, anyone 16 years of age or younger and anyone that is mobility impaired can turkey hunt on private land. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says that youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older. The adult can call the turkey but cannot attempt to take a turkey. The season bag limit is one gobbler per hunter per day, with a season total of two gobblers.
